Innistrad: Prerelease into Darkness!


One of the most flavorful sets to come out in a long time, Innistrad's Prerelease is this Sunday!  Join us at L.A. Mood to explore this new set for the first time!

Format: Sealed Deck. 6 boosters of Innistrad are provided; from this, construct a deck with a minimum of 40 cards. The rest of your cards are your Sideboard for the duration of the tournament. Lands are provided.

Rounds: Swiss rounds with a cut to Top 8. 

Time: Sunday, September 25th. Registration opens at 10:00 am. The Tournament begins at 11:00 am.

Cost: $27, payable at the door.

Rules and Enforcement: This Prerelease is run at a Regular Rules Enforcement Level - same as an FNM.

This tournament will feature Pool Registration and Random Checks to ensure that your deck only contains cards from your pool. Pool Registration will be done at the start of the tournament, and will consist of:

1) Opening your booster packs and noting the contents on the provided pool registration sheet.
2) Passing the contents of the packs, along with the registration sheet, to be double-checked by another player (determined by seating).


The Random Checks consist of:


1) Randomly selecting players at the beginning of a round and briefly examining their deck to ensure only cards registered in their pool are in their decks.

There is NO Deck Registration. You are free to change the details of your deck in between rounds as much as you like, provided you are only using cards registered to your personal pool.

In addition to all of the above, generous prizes are available to our top-placing participants (Top 8/Top16 based on attendance) and each and every player will receive a free promotional copy of the two-faced Mayor of Avabruck - as well as a 2/2 Wolf Token to go with him!

Magic Set Celebration!

Hello, Magic players!

Don't forget that the Magic 2012 Set Celebration is happening at L.A. Mood this weekend, on Sunday, September 11th, starting at 11:00 a.m.


Magic Set Celebration is an all-new event supported by Wizards of the Coast and is meant to reward you, the players, for just enjoying Magic to its fullest!  Here are the details:

When: Sunday, September 11th. 10:00 am registration, 11:00 am start time.  

REL:  Casual Non-Rated Limited (Mini-Master!)

Entry Fee: None!

Format: Minimaster!  Each entrant receives one (1) free M12 Booster, which is opened and added to fifteen basic lands (3 of each type) to make a 30-card deck.


Rounds:  Single-Elimination rounds, best-of-three matches.  Any player who wins a match receives one (1) additional free M12 booster, which is immediately added to the 30-card deck to make a new deck with a 40-card minimum size.  Lands and cards may be swapped freely in between games and matches.


In addition, any player losing in the first round of the main event only are immediately registered into a "shadow bracket".  Shadow bracket rounds are other run identically to the main event, including pack awards for each shadow match won.

Prizes: The final winner of the main event will receive one (1) booster box of Magic 2012 and one (1) Planeswalker-logo branded t-shirt.  The final winner of the shadow event will receive one (1) copy of Ajani vs. Bolas and one (1) Planeswalker-logo branded t-shirt.


All participants will receive a copy of a Duels of the Planeswalkers promotional card, redeemable for in-game cards!

Grand Prix: Montreal Sealed-Deck Trial

Hello, Magic players!

L.A. Mood is hosting a GPT for GP Montreal at the end of August.  Grand Prix events are open tournaments with cash prizes held regularly throughout the year for Magic players not on the Pro Tour to share in the excitement and atmosphere of big Magic tournaments! 

Grand Prix Trials are held in stores in the weeks leading up to a Grand Prix to give players a chance to earn byes (free "wins") on Day One of the event, making it even easier to proceed on to the prize-awarding rounds on Day Two!  First place at our GPT will award three byes for GP: Montreal!

When: Sunday, August 28th. 10:00 am registration, 11:00 am start time.  Players will have 20 minutes for Pool Registration and 30 minutes for Deckbuilding prior to the start of the first round.

REL:  Competitive

Entry Fee: $30

Format: Sealed Deck Swiss Rounds with Top 8 Single-Elimination Draft.  Product for the Top 8 draft provided with entry fee.  Sealed Deck Swiss Rounds are 50 minutes per round.  Single-Elimination rounds are untimed; players are expected to maintain a reasonable pace of play.

Prizes: 2 booster packs per entrant are place into the prize pool.  First place finish recieves three (3) byes for Grand Prix Montreal. 2nd - 8th place finish recieve booster packs from the prize pool.

Maximum Participants:  50.

Just a quick update with all the details for Magic 2012 Game Day, this Sunday!

When: Sunday, August 14th. 10:00 am registration, 11:00 am start time.

Entry Requirements: One (1) Standard-legal deck and sideboard. Decklist required.

Format: Swiss rounds with no cut to Top 8. Top 8 prizes are awarded based on standings after the Swiss rounds.

Prizes: All participants receive a copy of the participation prize: Stormblood Berserker.  Top 8 finishers will also receive a full-alternate-art foiled Dungrove Elder!.  (Apologies for the tiny sample art, best I could do)

In addition, Magic 2012 Game Day will feature $15 Keep-What-You-Draft 8-4 M12/M12/M12 Drafts!  All entrants into side events will receive an additional copy of Stormblood Berserker and the first-place finisher will receive a copy of Dungrove Elder! (while supplies last).

Greetings, Spellslingers!  August is shaping up to be a pretty exciting month for Magic at L.A. Mood, so here's the first of many posts to keep you updated on all the events and promotions and astounding product coming out!
