Tournament prizes and door prizes are awarded for our FNM tournaments. For our drafts, our prizes are awarded by rare redraft (in addition to FNM prizes on Fridays). Our 1'st place finisher gets first pick of all the rares opened, 2'nd gets second pick, 3'rd gets third pick, and so on. This month is also the launch of the new core set M10. We will be celebrating this new core set release, chock of full of new goodies and old favourites, with back to back FNM drafts featuring M10 and also an M10 Launch Party on Sunday, July 19'th. Players attending the the Launch Party will receive a sick-looking release foil version of this card:

WHAT A FREAKIN' HOUSE!

Meet the Graphic Novel Group!

Our first meeting was a success! Attendance was 8 people, including myself. Don't worry if you couldn't make it, the GNG's doors are always open and you can join any time on Facebook!

Our first meeting began with introductions and sharing our graphic novel picks. We decided that we definitely wanted to meet in person on a regular basis and the 2nd Saturday of each was chosen. Having said that, we know that Saturdays are not convenient to everyone and in order to allow as much participation as possible, we would have an on-line component. We decided that Facebook allows us an easy forum for discussion and all of us, and many of our customers, are already on it. Tom volunteered to start up the page and it is ready to go, just search LA Mood Graphic Novel Group. After a discussion of our favourite graphic novels, Watchmen and Maus came up more than once! We thought we could postpone Watchmen until the release of the DVD and then we could combine movie and book discussion, so Art Spiegelman's Complete Maus was chosen as our first book.

Currently, we have volume II in stock and we will be getting more in. It will be our featured graphic novel in the store and will be availbable for 25% off!

L.A. Mood's invites you to meet comic artists and creators:
Diana Tamblyn and Willow Dawson
Saturday, May 30, 12-4 PM at the store.

Diana is an Ignatz-nominated cartoonist and illustrator living here in London. She has written several mini comics such as The Rosie Stories and Duty Must Be Done: The Story of Frederick Banting. She is currently working on a full length graphic novel From Earth to Babylon: The Story of Gerald Bull and the Supergun. The first chapter of the book, The Paris Guns, is now available as a mini comic and she will have some on hand. I find her historical biographies to be reminiscent of Chester Brown's Louis Riel. Diana was also pleased to be chosen for the 2009 London Artists' Studio Tour at the beginning of May and her work was on the cover of the April 2009 issue of ArtScape. As well as her comics, she will have original art, t-shirts, and buttons available! You can check out a Q&A with the National Post here.

Willow, who is originally from BC, lived here in London for a brief period, working for us at L.A. Mood's! (We like to think we had a positive influence in her journey as illustrator in the comics industry.) Willow is currently working on a semi-autobiographical web comic called 100 Mile House.

She is also the illustrator of the graphic novel No Girls Allowed: Tales of Daring Women Dressed as Men for Love, Freedom and Adventure, published by Kids Can Press written by Susan Hughes and Violet Miranda: Girl Pirate with Emily Pohl-Weary. You can view a video of No Girls Allowed here.

You can visit Willow's web page here. As well as her comics, Willow will have original art, buttons, and t-shirts for sale! You can check out a Q&A with the National Post here.

Both ladies will be happy to sign their work and talk about the comics biz and their experiences getting started in this male dominated industry.
